Watershed Concerto

Watershed Concerto

Watershed is a concerto for vibraphone and orchestra by American composer Judd Greenstein, written for Pascal Schumacher. Greenstein, co-founder of New Amsterdam Records, is one of the distinctive voices of the American post-genre scene, creating music that combines rhythmic energy, formal clarity and a strong sense of social awareness.

The piece was born in a politically charged moment. Dedicated to the pro-democracy and anti-fascist movement in the United States and worldwide, Watershed reflects on fragility, resistance and irreversible change. Its title evokes water systems, pressure, flow and rupture — images that also speak to the instability of our societies.

For Pascal Schumacher, the concerto places the vibraphone in a powerful orchestral landscape: shimmering, precise, fragile, but also direct and insistent. After its premiere in 2025 with Luxembourg Philharmonic, Watershed was recorded in June 2026 with the Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn (WKO) and will be released in 2027 as part of GLASS THREE on Neue Meister.
